Pacesetter Steel Service, Inc. is an experienced, creative and customer-centric organization with integrated support teams that help provide exceptional service to our customers. This is accomplished through clearly understanding their needs and providing them with valuable solutions to fulfill those needs.

Quality Assurance (QA) Process

Our Technical Services associates provide research and analyses to insure that we exceed our customer requirements on quality, material application, and manufacturing specifications. Our team is equipped in solving non-conformance issues "root cause analysis", assist in cost reduction programs, are tool and die experts with extensive experience in trouble-shooting stamping, bending and roll forming operations and provide customized technical educational programs. Our team has combined industry experience of over 70 years.

UL Certification

Pacesetter is an Underwriters Laboratories Inc. approved re-packager of certified steel products. Our testing labs are also approved to provide coating weight certification for flat rolled coated steel.

Logistics

We pride ourselves in our understanding of the essential "Just-In-Time" principle of today's market. For that reason, processing orders are computer tracked from the time the customer's order is entered until the shipment is delivered.  Our Management Information Systems group provides Pacesetter with continuous updating of steel industry information and ensures that Pacesetter, through the utilization of the best distribution techniques available, remains at the forefront of the distribution industry.

Profit Enhancement Team

In 1998, Pacesetter developed a program to assist customers in identifying and/or implementing changes in their manufacturing operation in order to increase process reliability, improve production capabilities, and optimize customer service performance.

These improvements have enabled customers to:

  • Reduce waste and cost
  • Improve performance and profitability
  • Improve product quality
  • Enhance and enable associates
  • increase cash flow and visibility

To achieve this, Pacesetter assembles a team of assurance technicians, operations experts, and external consultants to evaluate your operations environment. Some things we study and/or measure during these visits include:

  • Yields
  • Uptime
  • Throughput
  • Plant layout
  • Supervisory Skills
  • Capacity utilization
  • Schedule adherence
  • Value-added behavior
  • Material flow and presentation
  • 5S and Visual Factory techniques
  • Inventory (Raw, WIP and Finished)
  • Replenishment methods and results
  • Quick changeover disciplines (SMED)
  • Communications and scheduling affectivity

The Profit Enhancement Team occurs in several stages:

Phase 1: Needs analysis: We meet with you to pinpoint your business goals. Typically, this involves several areas of possible improvement leveraging different surveys, checklists and top-grading tools to quantify your concerns and identify opportunities.

Phase 2: Manufacturing performance analysis: This is an on-site analysis. We observe and participate in your operation, and measure success rates. We evaluate the issues you have identified, generally focusing on one or more of these ten performance variables:

  • Product changeover cycle time
  • Line startup rate and waste variances
  • Mechanical and electrical downtime (scheduled or unscheduled)
  • Throughput rate variance across lines, products, and shifts
  • Skill level variances against basic requirements across shifts and crews
  • Material flows and bottleneck constraints
  • Process variables and equipment set-point variances across shifts and lines
  • Plant management and supervisor challenges
  • Raw material availability and quality variances
  • Parts replenishment and delivery systems

Phase 3: Profit Enhancement Team: The result of the analysis is a highly-detailed Performance Enhancement Plan, custom-tailored to the improvement priorities of your company. It is a consensus solution set, with milestones and a key event schedule.

Phase 4: Implementing the plan and measuring results: We assist in implementing the changes you select from the plan and measure their success using the measurement tools and/or processes we recommend.

Phase 5: Follow-up: In person, follow-up meetings ensure that the improvements you've made are long-lasting, and that you are thoroughly satisfied with the results. Program improvement targets generally range from 10% to 40%, depending upon the specific undertaking.
