Business Planning Analyst - Career Posting

Primary Role:

Develop and execute a strategic inventory plan for assigned area that will insure support of our customer's requirements and enhance Pacesetter's profitability.  Prepare quotations for existing business and assist in quoting new business.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning Process to insure integration of the sales, inventory and operating plans.
  • Develop and execute an inventory strategy which provides the required return on investment while meeting all customer commitments and requirements.  Coordinate and implement buying strategies to cover both current and upcoming needs.  Place and monitor buy requests with Supplier Coordinators.
  • Consistently work to be aware of market trends and outside influences that may impact inventory levels.
  • Actively work to increase inventory turns while maintaining efficiently managed inventory.
  • Actively work to efficiently identify and eliminate waste, inaccuracies, and obsolescence (aged, non-prime, or undesirable inventory) in our inventories while maximizing profitability using the available audit/inspection tools.
  • Actively work to understand the impact of past, current and future market conditions on the relationship between Sales and purchasing.
  • Maintain inventory levels as agreed with the customer and/or specified in the MOU, the contract, or the inventory plan for the customer.
  • Perform Master Order analysis and adjustments based upon analysis of projections received from customers, Sales, or historical data. 
  • Ensure inventory is available for on-time shipments of Master Order releases. 
  • Develop appropriate processed inventory levels and/or processing strategies for Master Orders.  Team with the Expeditors monthly to maintain these levels.
  • Select and tag inventory and/or purchase orders for Master Orders.
  • Identify and communicate with the Supplier Coordinators the Purchase Orders that are needed on a timely basis to prevent lapses in customer coverage.
  • Initiate inspections, tests, and transfer requests as needed.
  • Provide reports as needed to both internal and external customers.
  • Visit customers to gain knowledge and provide value when appropriate.
  • Determine costs to service customers on a contractual basis using the acquisition cost of material from multiple sources, inbound and outbound transportation costs and methods, processing and storage costs and methods, as well as analyzing and delineating information supplied by other functional areas of the corporation as required.
  • Determine optimal selling prices and gross margins based upon analysis of input from all areas of the company while at the same time anticipating and evaluating competitive offerings. 
  • Prepare quotations to maximize profits and service customer needs.
  • Support and maintain the policies, procedures, and quality process of Pacesetter Steel service, Inc.
  • Reflect our Corporate Vision, Quality Policy and Corporate Objectives in daily job activities.

Teaming Activities:

  • Work with Sales to develop inventory plans designed to provide the optimum inventory levels for specific customers.
  • Provide feedback to Sales, Customers, and Management on forecast compliance and profitability.
  • Provide feedback to Sales, Customers, and Management on inventory levels and usage, including inventory overages and shortages.  Participate actively to address any inventory issues.  Solve service failures by involving other team members and participate in corrective actions.
  • Work closely with Supplier Coordinators to make sure that, given the observable market conditions, we are buying and selling the appropriate amounts given the foreseeable future.
  • Responsible for working closely with Operations and Expeditors to maintain our inventory as prime inventory and not generate excess or less than prime inventory.
  • Responsible for reviewing customer inventory marked as aged and driving action to purge it from our inventory.
  • In collaboration with the Business Development Team, quote repeat business and new business as assigned by Inventory Manager.

Skills/Education Required:

  • College Degree in related field; i.e. supply chain management, inventory management, business, math, finance, accounting, management, industrial engineering, etc or comparable years of experience.
  • Experience in an MRP II or ERP environment.  Ie. Oracle, SAP a plus.
  • APICS certification a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in spreadsheet and database software.  Proficiency in Access preferred.
  • Proficiency in utilization of query programs.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Excellent planning capabilities with the ability to balance current and future needs and requirements.
  • Able to professionally communicate verbally and in writing with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to immediate and changing circumstances.
  • Ability to accomplish desired results under pressure and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to initiate ideas into action.
